40 years ago. Our bread and butter for the past 20 years pre Rafa, was Worthless/Carling/League cups and the odd, very odd mind, Fa cup win, whilst trying and failing to mount a title challenge. So if our bread and butter is the league, then its stale and gonna break yer teeth. Our Bread and butter now, is glorious european nights of beating Milan, Barca, Juve, Milan and Chelsea twice. Ripping Olympiakos a new arsehole in the second half in 05, whilst demolishing Besiktas, Porto and Marseille by 16 goals to 1 in 3 games.
Plus Rafa has achieved the same in 3 seasons of Cl football, that Slur ExLax and Wenger have achieved in 35 combined seasons of management in England. Two Cl final's, one win. So balmy european nights are now our bread and butter, take your head from your ass and see it. Rafa has more class in his little finger than Jose and if you can't see that Rafa is a manager in the best traditions of 'The Liverpool Way' then I can't help you.
Why dont we challenge in the league ? Well Rafas total spend in 3 and a half seasons is 80million. So Rafa is supposed to build a title winning squad from Carra, Gerrard, Torres and 60m ? Are you fuckin thick ? United have spent RAFAS entire 4 year 80m in just 18 months on two 19yr old kids, a second rate geordie and Canadian !!! (FFS, no offence NP). Chelsea could blow out Rafas entire 4 year budget on a ukrainian, past it, mate of the owner and a goofy Brazilian.
So its no wonder that over 38 games we can't challenge. Even those who are dissapointed in our league form acknowledge that they just want a 'challenge'. Well thats not the liverpool way is it, just being 5 points off the top, oh well done ! No, the LIVERPOOL WAY, is to win big ears for a 6th 7th and 8th time and while we do that, perhaps generating the money and create the attraction for the top players to come and play for us, thus eventually giving us a chance of winning no19. When Rafa came, we had Carra and Gerrard, now we have Reina, Agger, Mascherano and Torres, all of whom, IMHO, are world class players.
Plus what faith have you in our owners to get someone better ? Jurgen Fin Klinsman ? Martin ONeil ? Paul Jewell are you all fuckin mad ?
